URGENT ACTION NEEDED I have just received a letter from Chris Huhne, as I am sure many of you have. He, as we all are, is very concerned about the news that Hamble is proposed to be the only site this side of Southampton water left in to the Minerals plan for gravel extraction for the South Hampshire region, which came to fruition yesterday. As you know the first meeting to decide our fate is on Monday in Winchester, anyone around is urged to go, please note we are taking time off work for this and have done for many of the fundraisers and other events. As you know we are sending 4 representatives along - Susie Tomson (behalf of us), Heather Broadbent (behalf of the businesses), Kate Muffet (behalf of the Parish Council), Paula Sanderson (Parish council and resident). However Chris Huhn is urging us to write in to Cllr Ken Thornber - Leader of the Hampshire County Council by Monday 23rd June. This is not much notice BUT this is how these people operate in order that we do not have time to respond! He urges us to write by mail - however if you cannot do this - please write an email. Cllr Ken Thornber, Leader Hampshire County Council, The Castle, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 8ZB Ken.thornber@hants.gov.uk Please send a copy to Chris Huhn as well - Chris Huhn, 109a Leigh Road, Eastleigh, SO50 9DR chris@chrishuhne.org.uk The facts are as follows: 1. Pickwell Farm is proposed to be removed under traffic and access reasons 2. Chilling and Bronwich are proposed to be removed under protection of existing uses - agriculture, recreation etc 3. Daedelus proposed to be rejected due to unviable source. 4. North of Portsmouth Road is not included due to unviable resource This info and more is on the website - Www.hants.gov.uk/decisions/decisions-docs/080623-cabine-R0617153630.html Obviously the points to raise are: 1. We support the removal of Pickwell Farm and the site North of Portsmouth road. We want the removal of Hamble airfield because of the following 1. Traffic in Hamble is more of an issue than Pickwell Farm, so how can this not be removed as well 2. SAFE Access to Hamble Airfield is an issue crossing routes used by school children, medical centre etc 3. Transport out of Hamble is more of an issue than the other sites but is a reason for proposing to drop Pickwell 4. The method for choosing sites is inconsistent and what applies to one should apply to all 5. There have been no grounds given for why Hamble should be chosen, just why the others should be dropped 6. Dust, noise, pollution- businesses will leave the village as will residents and boat owners - whether real or perceived impacts, we are already seeing this happen. 7. This will massively effect the marine industry - part of Hamble's heritage 8. This will effect tourism, restaurants, bars, yacht clubs, something that is not an issue at Chilling and Bronwich or the others 9. No consideration to the environmental impact on the residents 10. Consultation on the Plan has been minimal and there is no evidence that they have listened to the local issues and information supplied in the consultation at the end of last year. Had they listened, the Airfield certainly would not be identified above the other sites in Hamble. So WE URGE YOU AS MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY, OR PEOPLE WHO SAIL HERE TO WRITE TO HCC AND FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO MAKE A STANCE - YOUR WORDS DO MATTER This outlines the importance of the REPORT and the fundraising done to date PLEASE PLEASE WRITE IN AND PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOU KNOW
