THE NEXT FEW MONTHS ARE OUR LAST CHANCE TO FIGHT THIS THREAT.

On September 19th Hampshire County Council (HCC) published their final plan for Minerals and Waste for the next 10 years. And Hamble Airfield is still in the plan!

This is of course extremely dissapointing but not entirely surprising as HCC seem oblivious to the real impact that this will have on our community despite report after report from us, and letter after letter from thousands of you, stating otherwise.

Well one things for sure we're not giving up, in fact quite the opposite. There are several opportunities coming up to restate our case and we're doubling our efforts in conjunction with our planning advisors. However you can help too:

13/10/11 Full Council, HCC HQ, Council Chamber, Winchester - We will be making deputations so come and show your support by attending the public gallery. Nothing speaks louder than people acting with their feet so let's make it 100% Hamble!

07/11/11 - 16/12/11 Public Consultation on the 'Pre-Submission' draft Plan - we will be presenting our strongest case yet and asking you to do the same - details to follow

April - June 2012 Examination in Public by independent government inspector - who will review the plan and selection process as well as our arguments against.

All way too late! If these gravel pits go ahead then frankly we deserve it. We're disorganised, there's no leadership, we're made up of factional groups too interested in their own agenda and we have failed to engage the pubic and the media.

The businesses have grouped together to form their own agenda and think the residents are a bunch of "whingers" and the businesses think that their cause is more important than the residents. In terms of supporting and speaking out against this plan, we've simply missed the boat. In order to speak at any of these meetings, you have to apply in writing to the CEO 10 days prior to the meeting - that was midnight on the 29th Sept!!! Lib Dem newsletters and Parish Council fly sheets didn't reach the residents of Hamble until the first and second week of October!! So what do you expect us to do when you ask for our support????

We need leadership, we need road side banners all along Hamble Lane saying "No Gravel Pits Here", we need advanced concise information on meetings, we need to involve local radio and the BBC South.

We're a shambles and the HCC has clocked onto this, and therefore see us as an easy option for this plan.

I think you'll find the businesses are adopting a different approach to counter this plan, since the residents have rather exhausted all the arguments open to them. I agree, the lateness of the announcement of this meeting is a concern. This link, outlining the date and agenda for this Thursday's meeting only started to reach the residents of Hamble on Monday 10th Oct - just days before this meeting.

HCC have confirmed to me that the agenda of the meeting was posted on the above link only last Friday, I also see that RAGE posted this news thread on the 6th Oct. You're quite right in that in order to speak at these meetings the public must write in and apply in writing to the Chief Executive 10 days before the meeting. Through tactical measures by the HCC, the public has been technically gagged from speaking by default.

To this extent, I'd say communications are not good. I like the idea of banner boards along Hamble Lane as a means of raising publicity which has been very thin on the ground.

I agree with all that David Weeks has said and would also like to add another comment about the way HCC are supposedly keeping us updated.
We have just recieved an 8 page documenmt "planning preparation process" asking for comments regarding the soundness of the plan.
We found this document to be very complicated and way above our understanding. As much as we would like to do everything we can to stop this gravel extraction going ahead, there is no way we can fill these forms in as we don't understand all the terminology. To us and I'm sure many others this is all legal gobbledy gook. Of course this may be the idea behind all this legal jargon...half of us won't fill these forms in and send them off because we don't understand what they are asking, then they will be able to say there was a very poor response to the plan.
Yes to banners all along Hamble Lane....Yes to blockades and yes to local meetings where the people who live in Hamble can attend, not miles away where it's too difficult for the locals to get there

I have just found out that there is a public meeting at Hamble Community Sports College on Tuesday the 6th of December. Why were we not notified of this
